A Unique Karate Demonstration
Kurt Tezel, a sixth-degree black belt and president of Supra Color Enterprises Inc., has showcased his karate skills in some extraordinary locations. From the pyramids in Egypt to the USS Intrepid in New York, Tezel has left his mark. However, it was his recent karate demonstration at the Cocoa Beach Country Club in Florida that truly captured attention.
A Close Encounter
While playing a round of golf at the Cocoa Beach Country Club, Tezel spotted a large alligator lounging on the bank, with another one nearby. Being a Floridian, he was unfazed by the sight and decided to capture the moment on camera. Setting his golf club aside, Tezel performed a series of karate movements known as a kata in front of the alligator. With the unassuming reptile just 20 feet away, Tezel showcased his warrior spirit.
A Florida Tradition
Tezel’s encounter with the alligator is not uncommon at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. The golf course is known for its resident alligators that can often be seen sunbathing on the banks. Tezel mentioned that it’s a regular occurrence to spot these reptiles while playing golf. The video, filmed by his wife, Tricia Tezel, shows the karate demonstration and zooms in to reveal the tail of the massive alligator, estimated to be up to 14 feet long.
A Warrior’s Instinct
As a seasoned karate practitioner and Sensei, Tezel was prepared for any sudden movements from the alligators. Had they shown any signs of aggression, he would have relied on his instincts as a Floridian and taken evasive action. Tezel also kept a close eye on his wife’s reaction during the alligator-karate scene to ensure her safety.
Wildlife at the Cocoa Beach Country Club
The Cocoa Beach Country Club is not just a golf course but also a wildlife sanctuary. The club’s website acknowledges the presence of alligators, along with waterfowl, dolphins, turtles, and raccoons. Golfers are encouraged to enjoy the diverse wildlife while playing their rounds. The club also offers banquet facilities for special events at reasonable prices.
Coexisting with Alligators
Florida residents are accustomed to sharing their environment with alligators. While serious injuries caused by alligators are rare, caution is advised. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends avoiding feeding alligators, maintaining a safe distance, swimming only in designated areas during daylight hours, and keeping pets on a leash away from the water. If there are concerns about an alligator, residents can contact the nuisance alligator hotline or visit the commission’s website for assistance.
Alligator Sightings at Cocoa Beach Country Club
Over the years, numerous sightings of alligators, both large and small, have been reported at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Signs are posted on the golf course, warning golfers about the presence of alligators and snakes. These sightings have become a part of the golfing experience at the club.
