Significant Payouts to Elite Players
According to the report, renowned golfers such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas are in line to receive substantial payouts. Tiger Woods is expected to receive a staggering $100 million, while Rory McIlroy is set to pocket $50 million. Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas will also be rewarded handsomely with $30 million each. The total payout of $750 million will be distributed among the top 36 players based on a formula that takes into account their career achievements and popularity.
Long-Term Commitment Required
These payments will be spread out over the next eight years, contingent upon the players remaining loyal to the Tour during this period. Looking ahead, the Tour plans to allocate $100 million annually to its players, emphasizing the importance of player retention and loyalty.
McIlroy’s Light-hearted Response
Rory McIlroy shared his thoughts on the payouts during a pre-tournament interview before the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana in Avondale.
