After world No.1, a FedExCup fight has begun. Xander Schauffele, East Lake specialist and Scottie Scheffler failed to keep up with the chasing pack in a weather-interrupted third round of TOUR Championship. Scheffler was two ahead of Schauffele through 36 holes, six clear of Jon Rahm third in the chase to the FedExCup bonus and $18 million bonus. This left both men at short odds and in a close race. Scheffler was -125 at BetMGM Sportsbook just before round three. He wanted to continue his dominating season and win the FedExCup alongside Schauffele at +75. Rahm was the first player to earn value, at +1200. After the third round was canceled due to dangerous weather, eight players were within six of Scheffler’s lead. This gave bettors confidence that an upset could still happen when play resumes on Sunday morning. Scheffler, who was at par on the par 70 East Lake course, was 19 under despite a trend of 67. Schauffele was just one under to be 18 under. They opened the doors to low-ranked players because of their slow starts. Sungjae Im was 4-under through 14 to reach 16 under. Rory McIlroy was 5-under through 16 and Justin Thomas (6-under through 17, Rahm (1-under thru 13), Patrick Cantlay (2 under through 13) and Sepp Straka (6-under through17) shared fifth place at 14 under. Scheffler is the favorite at +110 at BetMGM, Schauffele at+175. Schauffele’s 22 East Lake rounds have all been in the 60s. After birdies on the second hole and the third, Schauffele was briefly the tournament favourite. However, he lost his momentum with back-to-back double bogeys. Scheffler regained the lead with a pair of rebound birdies on holes six and seven. McIlroy, a two-time FedExCup champion, and Im, an International Presidents Cup representative are both +1000. McIlroy had a bogey at the fourth hole that dropped him to +4400, but he fought back with an birdie and an eagle. After a slow start to pars, Im was +6600. However, he managed three birdies as well as an eagle in the interval of holes 5-8 to make himself a factor. Rahm now stands at +2000, having twice climbed to +4000 in his round. The FedExCup champion Thomas is +4000 and Cantlay is +3300. After a bogey on the 4th hole, Thomas was at +25000. However, he made six birdies in the next 8 holes to remind himself of his incredible PGA Championship comeback. After a wild tee shot left, Cantlay lost his price and play was stopped. Straka, who is +10000 and in at +40000 by the mid-round, is the big outsider. September is Responsible Gaming Education Month. Responsible sports betting begins with a game plan.
