If you missed witnessing the remarkable performance of Mr. 57 a couple of weeks back, now is your opportunity to catch up on the action.
Breaking Records at the Astara Golf Championship
Cristobal Del Solar has made waves by participating in this week’s Mexico Open at Vidanta. His claim to fame came when he achieved the lowest score ever recorded in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Golf Championship in Colombia on Feb. 8. Del Solar astonishingly shot a 13-under 57 on the par-70 Pacos course, which is one of the two courses used for the tournament and also the shortest on the Korn Ferry Tour. The course, located at 6,254 yards and nearly 9,000 feet above sea level, provided the backdrop for his historic performance.
Impressive Display of Skill
Del Solar’s scorecard from the initial round of the tournament showcased a remarkable display of consistency and skill, with a majority of 3s and 2s alongside a few 4s. His round included two eagles and nine birdies. Although he faced challenges in subsequent rounds with scores of 69 and 75, he displayed resilience by finishing strong with a score of 63, ultimately tying for fifth place.
Setting New Milestones
Justin Ray highlighted that Del Solar’s performance marked the lowest 72-hole score on the Korn Ferry Tour achieved by a golfer who had a round of 74 or higher.
Continuing the Journey at Vidanta Vallarta
The current event at Vidanta Vallarta, designed by Greg Norman, will unfold as a par-71, 7,456-yard course situated in Puerto Vallarta along Mexico’s picturesque west coast. Del Solar, who made his PGA Tour debut at this event last year, is back in action this week courtesy of a sponsor exemption.
Stiff Competition and Notable Participants
Del Solar faces stiff competition at the Mexico Open, with notable participants including defending champion Tony Finau (world ranking 24), Nicolai Hojgaard (No. 33), Emiliano Grillo (No. 35), Ryan Fox (No. 36), and Padraig Harrington. While Will Zalatoris was initially scheduled to compete, he withdrew following his impressive tie for second place at the Genesis Invitational.
